Can video games teach children to shoot guns?

I am writing a paper about violence in the media (television, movies, video games, and maybe music) and its effects on children, and I read something about a 14 year old shooter who learned to shoot and kill from video games. I was wandering if there have been any studies or if there are any websites (.edu only) that prove this or if it is just a theory.

I doubt that a kid will learn how to shoot a gun from a video game. I’m a gamer since 1986 and I’m currently in the army and I can tell you from experience that there is no way, with so many different weapons that a child without any real firearms training will be able to operate a firearm.

Note: handguns are easy to learn and maneuver, but still video games doesnt show how to operate them.
